What should I wear? Will I be the only one there who’s not already thin or in shape? How do I know if I’m doing an exercise correctly? What should I do when I finish on a piece of equipment? What do I do with the towel I used? What if I accidentally took a towel home? What if I lose my card? Are there time limits on the cardio equipment? What if I would like to watch something else on the T.V.? What does it mean to “work in” with someone? Are there any rules I need to know? What should I wear? Clean, comfortable, modest clothing that allows you to move freely is always best. Of course comfortable athletic shoes are important. Sandals aren’t a good choice. They don’t give proper support and open toes are dangerous around weights. Flip-flops are even worse and we would prefer you not wear them to work out.Rivets on jeans are hard on the vinyl upholstery. When choosing an outfit, keep in mind that you will be bending and stretching. Does everything stay in place?Very baggy legs on shorter shorts might show more than they should. And frankly, the style of pants that hang so that underwear shows can not be kept on during any sort of exercise and should not be worn. Ladies might be more comfortable with a sports bra under their clothing or something that gives proper support if they will be doing anything high impact like running. Everyone appreciates the use of deodorant and clean clothes. [Back To Top] Will I be the only one there who’s not already thin or in shape? Of course not. Everyone had to start somewhere. We have plenty of people who are in good shape. But we are also the first gym for many. Everyone is working at being healthier and they respect anyone else trying to do the same - no matter what their size. [Back To Top] How do I know if I’m doing an exercise correctly? Ask us, we’ll be glad to help you. [Back To Top] What should I do when I finish on a piece of equipment? Remove any free weights you put on. As a courtesy to the next person, use the disinfectant spray and a paper towel from the nearby dispenser to wipe off any perspiration. This is a good practice during cold and flu season. [Back To Top] There is no need to change most handles or re-adjust seat positions. What do I do with the towel I used? Fresh hand towels can be found on shelves out on the main floor. There is a hamper right next to them for used ones. Bath towels are found in an open locker in the restrooms. You’ll find a hamper near the door of each restroom also. [Back To Top] What if I accidentally took a towel home? No big deal. It happens to a lot of us…Our mind is somewhere else as we leave. Just bring it back and drop it in the hamper next time you come. [Back To Top] What if I lose my card? If you just forgot it, tell us and we’ll check you in manually. But if you lost it, let us know and we’ll make you a new one. [Back To Top] Are there time limits on the cardio equipment? We don’t find that necessary. There are plenty of pieces to work on. [Back To Top] What if I would like to watch something else on the T.V.? If no one else is there, just use the remote to turn the channel. A grid is on the wall to show available channels and their number. If others are nearby, ask politely if they are watching that T.V. and if they mind if you changed it. There is seldom a problem because most folks are polite and easy going. [Back To Top] What does it mean to “work in” with someone? If someone is doing several sets on a piece of equipment, they need to rest between sets, but they are not done there. Often times, if you ask, they will let you do a set there while they are resting- known as “working in”. But if free weights need to be removed for you to use it, it’s best to just come back to that piece later. [Back To Top] Are there any rules I need to know? Most are common sense… - Please don’t drop or slam the weights. They are expensive and not indestructible. You also run the risk of dropping them on you or other members. It’s also very loud.
- Please be mindful of others and don’t use loud profanity.
- Screaming when you are lifting does not help you lift more weight and is disturbing to others.
- If others are waiting, visit with your friends somewhere where you don’t occupy a piece of equipment just to sit on.
- Steroid use and sale is illegal and will not be tolerated in this facility
